Dell's streak takes on ipad

I think that the streak tablet computer that Dell had produce, is interesting as it double as a mobile phone and has a front-facing camera for video-conferencing.

However, I prefer the products Apple produced.Iphones from Apple both has the same function except for the video-conferencing however, it has a variety of application which you can download into the Iphone. Iphones allow you to surf the net as well.

On the other hand, the streak tablet is only five inch and I think that it is too small for video-conferencing and too small for the user to view the applications in the phone. Whereas the Iphone or Ipad has a wider and bigger screen size for user to view the application and I think it is more user friendly compared to the streak.

3nd Post: Dell’s Streak takes on iPad

With a “surprisingly strong US demand”, Apple’s iPad became an overnight success by selling one million iPads in 28 days in the US. Will Dell’s Streak outshine Apple’s iPad?

My answer will be “no”. Introducing Streak is not a good thing for Dell. Here are the reasons; firstly, even with a 9.7-inch display that Apple’s iPad boasts of, that might seem small to me who used to larger screen. Thus if Dell’s Streak offers a smaller 5-inch display, it’s going to be tough to do anything, let alone watch movies or television shows.

Secondly, with iPhone OS being the leader in the market, it became the standard by which all other touch-capable operating systems are judged, thus when I think about tablets, I will think about the Apple’s iPad rather than Dell’s Streak.

Lastly, Dell may be the world’s third largest PC vendor and a household name, but it is not held in the same regard as Apple. When I consider mobile products that go beyond simple computing, I rarely spent time thinking about Dell. Instead, I think about Apple and that the company has done a better job than anyone else of delivering devices that I want to use.

If Dell wants to get better, it must start beating Apple at its own game!

Dell's Streak takes on iPad - Zhi Hao

Dell coming out with streak that want to take on iPad here the deal with a phone faction and a front-facing camera for videoconferencing and here another good deal from Dell for the new streak of having a slot for external memory cards that Apple's iPad do not have.

iPad does not have a USB port for user that is not so good for consumer as they using tumbdrive now a day.

But to my knowing that today May 28, 2010 the sale of iPad internationally have good respond as most Apple fans even put out tent for a few day before the product is on sale at their homeland. The sale of iPad also more than a million in USA that will mean that for tablet computer Apple is already a leader. While Dell's Streak will only be show casing their product in summer in USA to take on iPad.

I felt that is a bit too late for Dell product to sell even it start in summer. but is also a good thing as it add on to technology and maybe it will also affect the price of iPad so when the sale starting in July in Singapore I may also consider to get one to. The next wave for iPad will be July as in more place in Asia will be selling e.g. Singapore and Hong Kong. But there Japan already start selling so act fast if u a fans of Apple.

Feeding pets with processed food is definitely unhealthy for them. I have researched that processed food are actually far more salty and sweeter than their normal food. That is why; there have been cases whereby pets are suffering from rashes, balding and even facing stomach diseases. If owners want to share their similar diet with their pets, they must check with the vet to know more about what they can consume. However, food like fruits and plain bread are perfectly fine as long as you do not overdo the feeding.

Personally, I have a Corgi (picture above). Thus, I can understand their reasoning. I understand that owners give them their very own share of food is because they thought it would make their pets feel happier instead of eating their normal and boring dry food. But many owners lack of the basic knowledge of their pets’ diet. I advice owners to look into detail before feeding them as there are some breeds who have sensitive stomachs and if they consume certain allergy food, they will vomit and suffer from skin rashes or even a twisted stomach which requires an operation. Thus, if you love your pet, take the extra effort to find out more about their eating ability.

After reading this article, I am more aware of how i should feed my three pet dogs from now onwards.

I was surprised that actually, junk food can kill our pets indirectly. Pet owners have no ill-intention to kill their pets because they did not know that processed food ingredients, some may contain genetically modified ingredients. Pet owners may not know that what are the nutritional values contained in the processed food cans when they bought it. Some may over-heat the food and destroys the nutritional elements in the food.

I do hope that from now onwards, pet owners should be more careful when they buy pet food for their pets. Make sure that what they are buying is healthy for their pets so that they will not be killing them indirectly.

Junk Food Killing Pet Cats and Dogs

Quek Zhi Wei, Kathleen.

I believe that the owner of these pets, have no evil intentions to harm their own pets. They may not have the slightest idea that what they have been feeding their pets is actually junk food.

Sometimes, pet owners may get dry food for their pets, which are not healthy, as they do not have the time to make their pet's food. Therefore, pet owners should be encouraged to spent more time with their pets. This way, not only can they forge deeper bonds with their pets, but also keep their pets healthier.

I personally feel that, once in a while, consuming junk food is acceptable. As constantly consuming healthy food, is not always good for the body. Since our bodies need some antibodies to fight away viruses. For example, once a week, their pets can be rewarded with their favourite snacks.

Pet owners should also keep a look out for healthy snacks for their pets, as well as know what food they are actually getting for their pets.

Junk Food killing pet

I have dogs but I always give them organic food. hope that it will keep them healthy and fit.

After reading the news that I need to post for this week I very sad about hearing owners giving their pet junk food making them die earlier than their normal age. I felt that owner should try to know what they are giving to their pet before even buying the items. The normal foods out there have been process by machines and lose the original vitamin while processing it.

Owners should try getting something that good for their pet. e.g. Organic pet food. Having say that I have try to know better what food I giving even is stated organic food to them.

2nd Post: Junk food killing pet cats and dogs.

Junk food which have been affecting human for years, are now killing four-legged animals.

Pets that were given junk food have reduced life expectancy. As our best friends, pets are always there when we need accompaniment. Although, I believe that all pets’ owners have no intention of harming their pets. But without checking the origin of proteins inside the pet food, owners might unintentionally harm their beloved pets as it may contain genetically modified cereal.

Even if dry pet’s food croquette looks nourishing, it does not give pets the required vitamins and basic nutrition as the pet food is over-heated. Owners should feed their pets with home-cooked food instead, as pets that fed on home-cooked food live 3 years longer than those feds on processed foods.

I strongly urged owners to avoid turning pets into ruminants!

PARIS - The junk food and poor eating habits affecting humans is also killing their four-legged pals, say veterinary surgeons and experts.

Allergies and obesity are reducing the life expectancy of Lassies and Mittens nourished worldwide on industrial foodstuffs, said Gerard Lippert, a Belgian acupuncturist for animals who has just completed a study on the diets of 600 dead dogs.

"Pets, like humans, are victims of junk food," he told AFP.

Of the 600 furry corpses he examined "those fed on processed foods died three years earlier than those fed on food made in the home."

Dogs, he added, "originally were omnivores who shared their food with humans."

Rippert said he was increasingly called on to heal skin, motor and digestive problems as acupuncture was an all-embracing method enabling work on practically all organs.

"Dry dog food and cat food croquettes are over-heated, which destroys vitamins, trace elements and other basic nutritional elements," he said.

"We don't know the origin of the proteins in the foods," he added. "And there's an excessive amount of cereal, often genetically modified, and very little vegetables."

"We're turning our dogs and cats into ruminants," he said.

Laurence Colliard, a veterinary surgeon and nutritionist located in the Paris suburbs, estimates that only five percent of French pet-owners cook food for their four-legged companions.

France is Europe's top pet nation -- with 7.8 million dogs and 10.7 million cats, according to a 2008 study by the Sofres/Facco polling institute.

I believe that the current weightage of PSLE Mother Tongue Language(MTL) is fairly reasonable. From what i understand from the article, is that parents have misunderstood the speech from the Ministry Of Education(MOE), that MOE is going to reduce the weightage of MTL. However, the MOE have affirmed parents that the weightage is going to remain the same. The only change is using advance technology in teaching MTL. This benefits the students as they are now more comfortable with computers.

My main concern is MTL increasing its weightage higher than the weightage for English Language. As English is the very core language that we use. It is known as an international language to be used as a form of communication. I believe that the prime minister is still trying to re-emphasize that English Language is still our top priority and not forgetting MTL as our next most important language.

From the above article, i think that MOE should not reduce the weightage of Mother Tongue Language (MTL)and should just remain the same. Most children these days speak English at home and with their friends but that does not mean that they should forget about learning the MTL and thinking it is a difficult subject.
MTL teachers these days even think of a lot of interesting ways to teach MTL to the primary 1 students from the beginning of their primary education so that the students will be interested in learning MTL.
English is an international language but Chinese is important as well as we are Chinese, it will be a laughing stock if we Chinese do not know how to speak Chinese. Just like what Prime Minster Lee had mentioned, being bilingual, will definitely benefit in the future. I hope that parents will understand the importance of the two languages.

Weighting of Mother Tongue for Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)

1st Post: Weighting of Mother Tongue for Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE)

The policy of bilingualism was introduced in schools in 1966. Students were expected to learn English and their own Mother Tongue. With bilingualism, English is used as the language linking the different ethnic groups, while Mother Tongue language is used to impart moral values and cultural traditions of each race. With the help of bilingualism, in addition to other measures that the government had put in place, Singapore is able to become a multi-racial and multi-ethnic society.

However, when our Education Minister, Ng Eng Hen, says that the Ministry of Education (MOE) was looking at options to address the overemphasis on exams, where Mother Tongue Language (MTL) counts for so much in the PSLE. I became concerned as it means that students will put lesser attention in Mother Tongue and the values that they should learn might not be make a deep impression on them.

I understand why MTL teachers have difficulty choosing what to teach their students as on the one hand, they have textbooks to build up the foundation of students of the phrase or the words to begin with. On the other hand, they are worried that their students will lose out on the real-life issues in terms of comprehension, which they should be preparing the students for.

Thus, I agree that weighting of MTL for PSLE should remain and MTL should be taught in a new way, to cater to differing abilities and to meet the dynamic needs of the student population which is proposed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. I think that government should look ahead and make changes now or else another 5 years of students will have their less optimal experience with Mother Tongue. Especially when China’s economy is growing rapidly and the use of Chinese language is getting important.

In conclusion, I strongly believe that Singapore’s government will be able make a correct decision on Singapore’s bilingual education to give student their best headstart possible.
Deepest condolences to Dr Goh Keng Swee.

Quek Zhi Wei, Kathleen.

It is good to hear that the weightage of the Mother Tongue language (MTL) will not be reduced at the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE), as both our English Language (EL) as well as our MTL are equally important.

EL is important, as it is an international language which is easily understood. MTL is equally important, as it concerns our roots and values. Imagine not being able to speak and understand your basic MTL. Example, Malays not being able to speak and understand their Malay Language.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong also stressed in the above article about the fluidity of the situation in terms of new research and IT in the teaching of language. Teaching MTL is not tough, as there are many ways in which one can explore and apply to their lessons. One example, is in the recent news, students from some secondary schools were taught the Chinese Language via IT, using touch phones to learn new words, increasing their vocabulary knowledge.

Last but not least, being bilingual brings many benefits to us, and everybody should look at the bright side of everything.

Be positive, and everything around you will be positive.

Chinese Weightage - Zhi Hao

When I heard the news saying that they are not going to reduce weightage for our Mother Tongue in PSLE, I so happy as I felt that Mother Tongue is our mother language we should not forget our root while we improve our English too.

I am so happy that lot of the parents sign and asking not to reduce the weightage after Education Minister Ng Eng Hen speak, China is also improving so future people may like to work with the Chinese at least we have the base. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong add on on his speak that for Mother Tongue we should have a rich base on it and shall not have a cover for it. Mean they will keep on Mother Tongue so that future kids can benefit in two language while they are at work or social with other more easy.

Mother Tongue weighting for PSLE to remain
By Hwee Goh | Posted: 11 May 2010 1511 hrs

SINGAPORE: The weighting of the Mother Tongue language will not be reduced at the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). Instead it will be taught in a new way to cater to differing abilities and to meet the dynamic needs of the student population.

Right at the top of an hour-long interview, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong set the record straight on the weighting issue.

But change is still ahead in a big way.

Mr Lee has stressed many times the fluidity of the situation in terms of new research and IT in the teaching of language.

And this year, Primary Six students will take their exams based on a new syllabus rolled out after a review as recent as in 2004.

PM Lee said: "We have to look ahead because if we don't, by the time the situation is upon us and we start thinking and then we make changes, it's another five years and we will be chasing our tail again.

"And meanwhile another five years of students will have their less optimal experience with Mother Tongue, and to put it bluntly, we will have quite a lot of trouble with Mother Tongue."

Mr Lee also addressed the huge debate after media reports that the Education Ministry was looking at whether to reduce the weighting of the Mother Tongue Language (MTL).

Education Minister Ng Eng Hen explained: "In my interview, I said MOE was looking at options to address the overemphasis on exams, where 'MTL counts for so much in the PSLE'.

"Singaporeans became concerned that MOE was proposing to reduce the weighting of MTL in PSLE. This is not the case. I think I should have chosen my words more carefully and apologise for creating the wrong impression."

Mr Lee said: "We watched the reaction develop. ... We knew we needed to respond but at the same time we wanted to make sure that we put the whole picture out and not just put out a quick reassurance - sorry everybody is upset, therefore we are not doing anything and fall back onto the status quo because the status quo is not tenable.

"We have to move, we have to change the content, we have to change the resources, we have to change the examinations."

In fact, in February at the Istana, the Prime Minister and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew met key Education Ministry officials and 50 Mother Tongue educators to share with them the need to change and to tap their ideas, moving forward.

PM Lee said many who have benefited from Singapore's bilingual education had spoken up this time and that he shares the goals of these parents to keep bilingualism alive and yet give students their best head start possible.
